Details: Summary: The position provides professional expertise and design solutions within the Systems Engineering group in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.  Candidates will serve as an experienced engineer in a specialized and/or complicated area of assignment requiring limited direction and supervision while planning, developing and completing engineering projects within area of assignment.     Core Responsibilities: Heavy emphasis is placed on level of expertise, knowledge, originality, analysis, interaction within department and external organizations, and detailed documentation and report writing.     The candidate will perform duties as assigned within the Systems Engineering Group: Writing Technical reports – breaking down pre-requisites and requirements, describing how they will affect the electrical system, and proposing concepts to fulfil them Developing and analysing embedded software specifications and electrical schematics and block diagrams of vehicle functions Developing System Cross-Functional Specifications Utilizing Diagnostic Tools such as CANalyzer to troubleshoot and analyse in-vehicle networks Providing the necessary expertise to analyse vehicle functions to determine the best course of action required to resolve actual or potential problems Coordinate activities with other departments as well as deal with customers and vendors as necessary to resolve issues Assure compliance with all applicable vehicle regulations relating to area of responsibility Required Competencies: In depth knowledge of data communication technologies and vehicle communication protocols (SAE J1587, SAE J1939) In depth knowledge of vehicle functions such as ABS, Cruise Control, PTO, Diagnostics, etc. Analytical Skills:  Recognizing patterns in data, information, or events, drawing logical conclusions, and making recommendations for action Conceptual Thinking:  Understanding how elements, problems, and situations are related to each other and to the larger environment Creativity/Innovation:  Reframing traditional patterns of thinking and applying new and evolving ideas, methods, designs and technologies Dependability/Reliability:  Following through on commitments, producing timely work to required (or higher) standards, pitching in to get the job done Initiative:  Taking action in the absence of specific instructions or in the absence of a specific requirement, taking reasonable risks to achieve results, and persevering when challenged Ownership/Accountability:  Taking the lead in getting the job done and accepting responsibility for personal actions, costs, and results Problem-Solving/Decision-Making:  Taking a well-ordered approach to solving problems and acting despite obstacles or resistance Teamwork:  Building cooperation among individuals and departments, sharing information and resources, and working to achieve group goals and outcomes Flexibility:  Performing a wide range of tasks, responding to changes in direction and priorities, and accepting new challenges, responsibilities and assignments     Willingness to travel Minimum Education Required: BS Degree in Engineering with 8 or more years of progressive automotive experience, OR a minimum of 12 yrs of applicable progressive automotive experience without degree, OR Master of Science degree in engineering with 6 years of progressive automotive experience   Volvo Group North America is an Equal Opportunity Employer E.O.E./M/F/D/V
