Plastic Mechanic

Details: We are currently seeking a Plastic Mechanic to join our Composites team in Sacramento, CA. The Plastic Mechanic will perform layout, fabrication and buildup of new and special type parts and components which are composed of various types of composites. The successful candidate will work as part of a team to perform work on first run parts and assemblies requiring knowledge of composite shop theory, practice and ingenuity in developing and selecting the most effective fabrication methods. Lays out, fabricates and builds first run composite and related structural assemblies from prints, sketches and written or verbal instructions. • Mix combinations of molding and laminating resins to prescribed formulas; lay-up composite and fiberglass cloth to established contours; incorporate and insert bushings, locating pins, etc., in laminates; layout, cut and set up vacuum bags as required for curing laminates. • Sets up and operates single spindle winding equipment, and cutting table. Prepares shapes on special equipment for composite assemblies and parts. Monitor autoclaves. Lays out and fabricates various types of first person shop aids, templates and holding fixtures to be used in carrying out the above mentioned assignments. • Checks tolerance requirements. Checks first run parts for overall dimension conformity to specifications, defects, and makes recommendations for correction of molds, dies, etc., and new methods of techniques used. Conveys information to lesser skilled classification in the use of new techniques and methods of fabrication, as needed, provided it does not conflict with the duties of a lead worker. Equipment used: Autoclaves, ovens, mixers, sanders, grinders, hoists, vacuum pumps, hydraulic presses, routers and other hand tools. Position could be Swing shift. To qualify you much have: High school diploma or equivalent, technical school training a plus and two and half (2.5) years in composite fabrication experience. Engineering Specialist - Structural Analysis

Details: Aerojet is a world recognized leader in space and missile propulsion. We design and manufacture rockets for space launch vehicles and in-space flight. Under general direction and minimal supervision, performs structural analysis, composite materials &nonlinear material behavior, fracture mechanics and structural dynamics. Without appreciable direction and exercising considerable latitude in determining technical objectives and approaches to assignments, performs as an emerging authority in the engineering organization.Performs structural analysis to verify product designs meet structural performance requirements. 50% - Perform structural modeling of rocket motor hardware components - Conduct closed form solutions on hardware and solid propellant grains to structurally analyze joints and preliminary size components for pressure and thermal gradient boundary conditions. Materials will be a combination of isotropic, viscoelastic and composite. High temperature ablating nozzle component materials will need to be analyzed. Thermal gradients and pressure distributions as well as specified mechanical loads for these models will be provided by other analysis team members. The ability to coordinate with other team members for loads and an understanding of customer specified aerospace structural requirements is required. An ability to analyze static & dynamic loads, material nonlinearities and structural instabilities is required. - Using solid CAD models provided by other team members, generate FEA mesh in NX, IDEAS, ABAQUS, NASTRAN and/or ANSYS. The above loads and pressures will be used in these models. - Perform static structural analysis and assess operating margins. - Generate and provide analysis reports and presentation materials to analysis team and customers documenting FEM and analysis results. 25% - Report status and results of analysis tasks at design and program reviews. 25% - Prepare technical reports documenting all analysis activities.This position requires a Bachelor's of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace or Engineering Mechanics) and 9 years of engineering experience with finite element analysis, nonlinear material behavior and structural dynamics experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education. A Master's degree in a field of engineering that emphasizes structural analysis (majors listed above) is preferred. Demonstrated experience in performing linear, non-linear and dynamic structural analyses supporting design, development and production qualification is required. Requires proficiency using finite element analysis tools such as ANSYS or ABAQUS. Knowledge and experience with aerospace product development efforts is desired. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel and Power Point) is expected. .
